PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tension imparting mechanism for imparting stabilized back tension to a tape shape member being fed out, and to provide a tape printer incorporating it. SOLUTION: The mechanism for imparting a back tension to a tape-shape member R being fed out from a core 31 by braking the core 31 pivoted rotatably on the case wall 27 of a tape cartridge C comprises a bearing section 55 provided on the case wall 27 and having a part 61 for pivoting the core 31 rotatably and regulating movement of the core 31 in the axial direction by opposing the end face thereof, an in-case magnet 19 constituting at least a portion of the core 31, and a magnetic member 60 arranged on the outside of the case wall 27 and opposing the in-case magnet 19 through a gap where magnetism extends to the in-case magnet 19 in the axial direction.
