<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for enabling a paraphrase, based on a large-scale corpus. <P>SOLUTION: A paraphrase device 14 includes a first storage section 24 for storing a set of linked subtree pairs (fragments). Each of the pairs of subtrees includes a source subtree and a target subtree. Further, the paraphrase device 14 includes a parser 32 for parsing an input sentence 30; and a deriving unit 34 for deriving a set of sentences by applying composite operators to a subtree outputted from the parser 32. The composite operators are prescribed by the set of linked subtree pairs stored in the storage section 24.
