摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the liquid crystal display device with an optical compensa tion sheet which can effectively prevent a decrease in display contrast of, spe cially, oblique incidence and greatly improve field angle characteristics of dis play colors although the device is low in cost and light in weight. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device consists of a liquid crystal cell which has a liquid crystal layer between two electrode substrates having alignment surfaces, polarizing plates 11a and 11b arranged on both the sides of the liquid crystal cell, and optical compensation sheets 12a and 12b arranged between the liquid crystal and polarizing plate at least on one side; and the optical compensation sheets are each a stack of two optically anisotropic films 13a and 13b, and 13b and 14b which have optical axes 15a to 16a slanting to their film surfaces, are stack crossing projection axes 17a and 17b when the optical axes are projected on the film surfaces, and show optically positive uniaxiality, and the direction of the axis of projection of the optically anisotropic film arranged on the side close to the liquid crystal cell on the film surface and the alignment direction of the alignment film of the electrode substrate of the liquid crystal cell on the side close to the optically anisotropic film cross each other within a range of 45±15 deg..
