A wedge-shaped heating element (1) for a contact welding device is formed from ceramic material or a composite material consisting of a ceramic base material and a heat-conductive material. An independent claim is included for the production of the heating element of composite material, by incorporating the heat-conducting material in the ceramic material during production or in connection by liquid- or gas-phase infiltration.
