The work station in the post office has several conveyer belts (150-195) moving containers (120) for letters and parcels to workstations (130) with human operators. The letters and parcels (100) are taken out and sorted into categories. Transfer devices (135) switch containers from one conveyer to another on a line (140) at right- angles to it.
