A mold is partially opened by separating a die (4) from a punch (5) by a predetermined distance to form at least one localized volume between the die and surface of first plastic material. A second plastic material, different from the first plastic material, is injected into a localized volume to form an applied portion (3) directly over the layer of first plastic material. The applied portion covers only a portion of the surface of first plastic material after keeping the die and punch separated by predetermined distance. The mold is completely opened to remove the molded portion. Independent claims are the following: (1) a molding apparatus and (2) a mold.
