PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerator with superior visibility of housed objects in a storage chamber. SOLUTION: The refrigerator 10 is provided with the storage chamber 12 having an opening front face, a mounting shelf 24 partitioning a storage chamber 12 interior into a plurality of housing spaces 26, and a lighting system 44 illuminating the storage chamber 12 interior by using a semiconductor light emitting device 44a as a light source. It is characterized by that the lighting system 44 is arranged in a front end of an inner side wall of the storage chamber 12, and an optical axis L of the semiconductor light emitting device 44a is directed toward a widthwise center part M in a front face of the mounting shelf 24.
