A closed loop aerosol pulmonary delivery apparatus (100), configured to dispense at least one medication in aerosol form to at least a portion of pulmonary tissue, the apparatus comprising a housing having a passage configured to allow forward and backward passage of air during operation of the apparatus. The housing further includes a CO₂ adsorbing canister (121) contained within the housing, a counter lung (160) extending from the housing, a bottle of compressed O₂ operatively associated with the housing and configured to release O₂ gas into the counter lung and at least one bottle of medication configured to release at least one medication in cooperation with the release of the O₂ gas.
