The invention relates to catalysis and organic chemistry, in particular to methods for storing hydrogen in catalytic systems based on organic compound hydrogenating-dehydrogenating reactions. The inventive catalytic composites used for storing hydrogen are embodied in the form of mixtures comprising (1) a hydrogen source in the form of organic compounds (acetylene hydrocarbons, including aromatic hydrocarbons, polyacetylene oligomers and polymers) and (2) a hydrogenating-dehydrogenating catalyst containing a carbon or oxide carrier, which is provided with a high specific surface area coated by at least one type of a VIII group metal at a substrate/catalyst mass ratio ranging from 5:1 to 1000:1. The inventive hydrogen storing method consists in filling a hydrogen while a contact between the acetylene hydrocarbon and the catalyst at a temperature ranging from 100 to 200 °C, the hydrogen pressure of 5-100 atm and the substrate/catalyst mass ratio of 5/1-1000/1 and in releasing hydrogen from the system during the contact of the totally hydrogenated acetylene hydrocarbon with the same catalyst at a temperature of 200-350 °C and the atmospheric pressure.
