PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine mounted on a small vehicle capable of protecting a sensor projectingly provided on a cylinder from a flying stone or the like without requiring a special member and attachment work thereof. SOLUTION: In the internal combustion engine 20 mounted on the small vehicle 1 provided with a sensor 50 detecting an operation condition on the cylinder 22 arranged roughly horizontally toward front direction, the sensor 50 is projectingly provided on a side of the cylinder 22 and a vehicle body component 34 is provided below the sensor 50.
