PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce torque without degrading the rigidity of a bearing. SOLUTION: A tapered roller bearing 1 comprises, an inner ring 2, an outer ring 3, tapered rollers 4, and a cage 5. A coefficientγof roller exceeds 0.94. At least one of members of the inner ring, outer ring, and tapered rollers has a nitrogen enrichment layer, and grain size numbers of austenite crystal grains in the nitrogen enrichment layer exceed 10. The cage 5 is constituted of an annular part 6 contiguous to a small end face side of the tapered roller 4, an annular part 7 contiguous to a large end face side of the tapered roller 4, and a plurality of columns 8 connecting the annular parts. A pocket 9 housing the tapered roller 4 is defined between adjacent column parts 8. Tapered faces 8a in contact with a rolling face of each tapered roller 4 are formed on both sides of an inner diameter face of the column part 8, and the length L in a lateral direction of the tapered faces is 5% or more and less than 11% of an average diameter of the tapered rollers 4.
