A method for use in monitoring one or more platforms of a data system, comprises the steps of identifying, using a processing platform, a log message to be archived; first operating the processing platform to associate metadata with each of multiple parsed portions of the identified log message to be archived, wherein the metadata includes information to assist in restoring the message; and second operating the processing platform to archive the log message together with the metadata in a data structure for enabling restoration of the log message using the metadata.
