PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make maximum lift of an engine valve and working angles of a cam variable by using a motor without making a structure of a device complicated. SOLUTION: A control shaft 16 used for changing maximum lift and working angles is driven and rotated around an axis by the motor 61. A connecting member 48 connecting the control shaft 16 and a slider 26 is fitted in a groove 34 of the slider 26 and is meshed with male screw 32 provided on an outer circumference surface of the shaft 16. Rotation drive of the control shaft 1 for changing maximum lift and working angles can be materialized by only transmitting the rotation of the motor 61 directly to the control shaft 16 by a gear or the like, it is not necessary to provide a rotation linear motion conversion mechanism for converting the rotation of the motor 61 to linear motion in the axial direction of the control shaft 16.
