PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent reductions of information on the light intensity of a photosensor having regions unable to detect light and efficiently use light irradiated to the regions unable to detect light of the photosensor. SOLUTION: A photodetector or a photodetection method comprises the photosensor having a photodetection plane having a plurality of photodetection regions and the regions unable to detect light and adjacent to the photodetection regions; a light irradiation part for irradiating light to the photodetection plane; and a displacement action part for displacing the photodetection plane relatively to a position of light irradiation. By displacing the position of light irradiation relatively to the photodetection plane, light irradiated to the regions unable to detect light is irradiated to the photodetection regions.
