Disclosed herein are various methods of calibrating optical receivers. One such method includes controlling different levels of optical power of light transmitted to an optical receiver having an integrated variable optical attenuator with a computer system. Correction factors may then be determined by comparing each of the different levels with one or more corresponding parameters that are received from the optical receiver. The calibration data may then be communicated from the computer system to the optical receiver. Apparatus, systems, and machine-readable mediums having stored thereon instructions to perform such methods are also disclosed.
