BRAKE SYSTEM FOR ELEVATOR

A brake device is adapted to be able to perform different kinds of braking operation. An elevator car is braked by braking operation of the brake device. An emergency stop device for preventing the car from falling is mounted on the car. The emergency stop device is operated when the speed of the car reaches emergency stop overspeed. In a safety device are set overspeed levels according to positions of the cage, and the levels correspond to different braking operation and are lower than the emergency stop overspeed. When the speed of the car reaches each overspeed level, the safety device causes the brake device to perform braking operation corresponding to the level of overspeed at which the speed of the car has reached.
