[Also in Division B8] A cartridge for a cartridge-operated tool (see Division B8) comprises a tubular case 44 of a thermoplastic material, e.g. polyethylene, having a closed end 48 and an open end for receiving the ram 38 of the tool, a plug 50, also of thermoplastic material, retaining an explosive charge 52 and having a percussion cap 54 which can be detonated by a firing pin 39 on the ram. A flange 58 on the end 48 is clamped between one end of a barrel 44 and a breech cap 60 screwed to the barrel, the cap having a spike 62 which penetrates the closed end when the cap is screwed home to provide a gas escape when the cap is removed. |
