Swing and sliding door system has a door sliding mechanism, in which a rail (22) is connected integral with an inner wall of a door fixed to vehicle body and is provided movable over a rail support carrier. A parallel connecting bar has two arms which are pivoted on a vehicle body side at one end or on the rail support carrier at other end in such a way that the arms rotate horizontally. The system has an opening and closing drive mechanism comprising an opening mode rope, which is entwined around rope pulley in a first direction on the vehicle body side and on a door side containing the parallel connecting bar and the door sliding mechanism. The opening mode rope is to an end section of the door side in a door closing direction at its one end and fixed to a winding drum at the other end provided on the vehicle body side. A closing mode rope which is entwined around one of the rope pulleys in a second direction different from the first direction and is fixed to an end section of the door side in a door opening direction at one end and fixed to the winding drum at other end. A drive motor can be operated in such a way that the motor drives the winding drum.
