PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize a muffler for a compressor capable of damping the pulsation of the pressures of a discharged fluid and a sucked fluid from and into a compressor. SOLUTION: This muffler comprises a partition wall 24 partitioning the muffler space 26 of the muffler 2 for the compressor into a first muffler space 26a for damping the pulsation of the pressure of the discharged refrigerant and a second muffler space 26b for damping the pulsation of the pressure of the sucked refrigerant. The partition wall 24 is displaced so that the volume V1 of the first muffler space 26a is increased over the volume V2 of the second muffler space 26b while the compressor is operating under high load. While the compressor is operating under low-load, the partition wall is displaced so that V2 is increased over V1. Consequently, the pulsation of the pressure can be effectively damped by increasing the volume of the muffler space on the side where it functions as a muffler space, and the muffler 2 for the compressor can be miniaturized by reducing the volume of the muffler space on the side where it does not function as a muffler space.
