PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage system, capable of preventing reduction in data writing performance and restoration processing performance, even in the event of physical failure in a data distributing HDD, and loss of written data after the failure. SOLUTION: This storage system provided with a plurality of logical units of RAID configuration consisting of a plurality of HDDs and spare HDDs is connected to a host computer to dispersedly store data. The system prohibits data writing to a logical unit A in the event of failure of one HDD of a logical unit A, executes proxy processing for writing data from the host computer to another logical unit C having no failure, and executes, when degenerate restoration processing for switching the HDD with the failure of the logical unit A to a spare HDD is ended, restoration processing for restoring the data written to the logical unit C to the logical unit A.
