The method involves reducing turbocharger pressure in certain operating conditions for turbine sided regulation through adjustment of turbine conduit (34) through opening of recirculation air valve (36). The operating condition exists, when a reference value for the turbocharger pressure lies below a basic turbocharger pressure. The certain condition exists, when an exhaust gas mass flow rate exceeds predetermined threshold value. An independent claim is also included for a control device for controlling an exhaust gas turbocharger.
