In a timepiece, a detent 13, Fig. 1, has, besides the usual holding faces 5, 6, a locking face 10 which engages the side of an adjacent tooth 8 of the step-by-step driven gear 1 and prevents reverse rotation of the gear e.g. the date ring of a calendar watch. The locking face may be adjacent the face 6 if the gear is driven in the other direction.
