<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce or eliminate defects and problems relating to the conventional technique for mapping services, generally regarding the field of optical networks, particularly regarding mapping of services to a transport mechanism. <P>SOLUTION: Service parameter values are mapped to first network parameter values operable to configure a first wide area network for a first transport mechanism. The service is provided via the first transport mechanism. The service parameter values are mapped to second network parameter values operable to configure a second wide area network for a second transport mechanism.
