PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external additive for a toner capable of suppressing the occurrence of toner filming without shortening the lifetime of a photoreceptor. SOLUTION: The external additive for the toner is composed of two or more layers including a surface layer and is characterized in that the Vickers hardness of the surface layer is≥15 GPa and the Vickers hardness of any one layer provided on the side inner than the surface layer is≤10 GPa.
