PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost magnetic compass capable of measuring the orientation easily and accurately, regardless of the installation angles. SOLUTION: The magnetic compass 1 comprises a triaxial magnetic sensor 11 which detects a geomagnetic signal as geomagnetic components in x, y and z three-axis directions perpendicular to another; a data plane computing means 12 for computing a data plane, on which output data of the triaxial magnetic sensor 11 exist, in a sensor coordinate system having x, y and z three axes; a unit vector computing means 13 for computing a unit vector in a horizontal coordinate system having X, Y and Z three axes, wherein the Z-axis is in the vertical direction, and the X-Y plane is a horizontal plane; a horizontal coordinate conversion means 14 for converting the geomagnetic components which are detected by the triaxial magnetic sensor 11 in the sensor coordinate system, into geomagnetic components of the three axes in the horizontal coordinate system; an orientation computing means 15 for computing the orientation based on the converted geomagnetic components of the horizontal coordinate system; and a display means 16 for displaying the computed orientation.
