PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a support column for forming a pocket of a falling rock protection net capable of guiding a horizontal rope accurately and stretching it so as to prevent rupture of the rope and occurrence of abnormal load on the support column even when a section for driving an anchor for the support column is considerably on a mountain side and a main part of the horizontal rope stretched by wire gauze is considerably on a valley side for the support column and to provide a falling rock protection net construction method utilizing the support column. SOLUTION: This support column for falling rock protection net is provided with a support column body constructed by connecting it with the anchors provided on both side slopes of a mountain stream part by hinges so as to tilt and move it in the vertical direction of the mountain stream part, a plurality of brackets provided around an upper part of the support column body and connecting a hanging rope 8a anchored on both side slopes and a side rope 8b to timber the support column, and a guide mechanism 7B provided in a top part of the support column body to support the horizontal rope at the uppermost step assembled into the wire gauze slidably. The guide mechanism is provided with a projecting curved part 73, side wall parts 74 opposing in the direction of its width, and a barlike member passing through the side wall parts by crossing them orthogonally.
