PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet carrying device and an image forming device capable of minimizing even energy consumption by determining the sheet size without wasting even one sheet. SOLUTION: This sheet carrying device has a sheet size detecting means for detecting the sheet size by a position of a movably arranged sheet holding means; and is characterized by having gap detecting means 110 and 111 detecting a gap between the sheet holding means 11 and the sheet P and notifying means notifying gap detecting information when these gap detecting means detect the gap.
