PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module where the design flexibility related to thinning in the direction of its optical axis is improved and where the driving area of a lens is stably secured to the maximum. SOLUTION: The optical module includes: a lens holder 22 holding a lens group 21; a motor 13 having an output shaft 13b extended in a direction orthogonal to the optical axis of the lens group 21 and rotating the output shaft 13b; and a transmission mechanism 53 for converting the rotation of the output shaft 13b into translational motion in the optical axis direction to transmit to the lens holder 22. The transmission mechanism 53 has a cam gear 56 which rotates around an axis nearly parallel with the optical axis and where a gear part 56a and a cam part 56b are formed. One end side cam surface 56e1 which becomes the lowest position of the cam part 56b is set to a position where a level difference part 56i is formed from a surface where the gear part 56a is formed.
