PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide magnetic marker detector having improved accuracy in fault recognition, and to provide a fault recognition method for detecting a magnetic marker. SOLUTION: A plurality of magnetic detection parts are arranged, along with a predetermined direction of a vehicle 2 inside a magnetic sensor 3 which detects a magnetic field generated by the magnetic marker M installed on a running channel 11. When the vehicle 2 passes a reference magnetic marker (N-pole magnetic Mxn or S-pole magnetic Mxs) which is arranged, such that all the magnetic detection parts can detect the magnetic field, even if the vehicle passes any position, it is determined whether there are any magnetic detection parts that does not detect the magnetic pole of the reference magnetic marker at passing, and it is determined whether there are any magnetic detection parts, detecting the opposite magnetic pole of the reference magnetic marker at the same time as the passing time.
