PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston for an internal combustion engine capable of reducing oil consumption. SOLUTION: The piston 1 for the internal combustion engine is provided with a pressure ring groove 4 which is formed on an outer circumference surface of a cylindrical piston 1 and in which a pressure ring 7 is installed, and a communication hole 12 establishing communication between the pressure ring groove 4 and a cylindrical part of the piston 1. A projection part A inhibiting oil from flowing into the communication hole 12 is formed in a piston 1 skirt side of an open part 14 of the communication hole 12 on an inner circumference surface 14 of the piston 1.
