<p>In a drawn arc stud (2) welding process, an electrically conducting metal stud is presented to electrically conducting automotive sheet metal bodywork (1) and the welding current applied. The stud is lifted from the bodywork, triggering an arc and electrical heating, followed by renewed pressed presentation of the stud to the sheet metal. The weld quality is then checked by application of a test current I(PS : The test current is a regulated impulse current (I(PSi) applied after a predetermined time lapse (t(s) for a predetermined duration (t(p) and determines the current flowing through the stud. The test current value is compared with a predetermined value, and the difference used to determine the weld quality. A measured current (I(PS) below the test current (I(PSmin) falls below the minimum weld quality threshold and is spot marked by color.</p> |
