<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve the weight reduction, size reduction and cost reduction of a device, while having both aberration correction functions in the forward and in the backward optical paths and the function of a wavelength plate in combination. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device has two liquid crystal layers 21, 31, alignment layers and electrodes arranged in order on both sides of each liquid crystal layer, and a voltage applying means for applying voltages to the respective electrodes. The alignment directions of the alignment layers, arranged on both sides of the liquid crystal layer 21 and the alignment directions of the alignment layers arranged on both sides of the liquid crystal layer 31, are orthogonal to each other. and are respectively inclined approximately ±45° with the polarization direction of incident light. Also, one of the electrodes, arranged on both sides of the liquid crystal layer 21 and one of the electrodes arranged on both sides of the liquid crystal layer 31 are divided in the same shape. The voltage-applying means apply the voltages to the respective electrodes of the liquid crystal layers 2l, 31, in such a manner that a phase difference is generated in the transmitted light between the divided regions in each of the liquid crystal layers 12, 31 and that a phase difference is generated in the transmitted light of the liquid crystal layers 12, 31 in the same divided regions. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
