PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a facility and a method for pumping up sand, in each of which the clogging of a jet pump can be restrained. SOLUTION: The facility 1 for pumping up sand is provided with: the jet pump 5 for sucking the sand accumulated in a sand collection pit 3 through a suction pipe 7 and discharging the sucked sand to the outside of a sedimentation basin 10 through a discharge pipe 13; a differential pressure gauge 19 for measuring a difference between the water pressure in the suction pipe 7 and that in the discharge pipe 13; and a spray nozzle n2 for jetting the water flowing in the discharge pipe 13 toward the sand collection pit 3. When the differential pressure measured by the differential pressure gauge 19 is equal to or lower than a predetermined value, pressurized water from a water pipe 9 is made to flow backward in the suction pipe 7 to backwash the jet pump. After the jet pump is backwashed by the predetermined number of times, water is jetted toward the sand collection pit 3 from the spray nozzle n2 when the measured differential pressure is equal to or lower than the predetermined value.
