PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide recording and reproducing methods in which a sector of small size can be accessed and access speed can be improved while securing reliability of data. SOLUTION: Headers in each of which an address signal is recorded for each prescribed sector interval are provided in a disk. Recorded data are arranged in an error correction encoding block, and an error correction encoding processing is performed. This error correction encoding block is divided into a plurality of pieces and sectors S1, S2, S3,... are formed. Succeeding to the header, data of each sector are recorded. When reproduction is performed, the header is detected, and data is reproduced for each sector. One side of an error correction processing is performed by reproduced data in the sectors S1, S2, S3,..., when the error correction processing cannot be performed by this reproduced data in this sector, the error correction block including the sectors S1, S2, S3,... is reproduced and the error correction processing is performed with sequence of two directions.
