Disclosed is a catalyst carrier particle obtained by dispersing primary particles of ceria in alumina. This catalyst carrier particle does not have a prominent peak of alumina near 2? = 67° in x-ray diffraction analysis. Also disclosed are an exhaust gas purifying catalyst obtained by loading the carrier particle with a noble metal, and methods for producing such a carrier particle and exhaust gas purifying catalyst.
