An image forming apparatus and a method for controlling the same are provided to realize an on-demand fusing system for balancing the reduction of energy during standby and the reduction of the first printout time. A temperature of a fusing unit(23) is detected at the turn-on time or at the returning time from an energy saving mode. When the temperature of the fusing unit(23) is lower than a predetermined temperature, electric power is supplied from a rechargeable battery(455) to the load under the control of a power supply controller and the limit level is increased under the control of a fusing controller. While the electric power is supplied to the load from the rechargeable battery through a voltage regulator circuit(458), the temperature of the fusing unit(23) is monitored. If the temperature of the fusing unit(23) is not lower than the predetermined temperature, electric power is supplied to the load through a power supply circuit under the control of the power supply controller and the limit level is decreased under the control of the fusing controller. |
