The mat comprises a PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) material (2) with a relatively low volume resistivity which surrounds each electrode (4) and is located in between two regions comprising a PTC material (1) with a higher volume resistivity. An electrically insulating polymer (5) covers the PTC materials and electrodes. A wide self-regulating heating mat has two flexible electrodes extending each side of the mat edges and comprises two inner PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) materials. The second PTC material has a lower volume resistivity than the first PTC material and surrounds each electrode, occupying a region reaching up to 30 mm inside the electrode. The first PTC material is located in between the two second PTC material regions. The mat also includes one or more layers of electrically insulating polymer covering the conductive body formed by the PTC materials and electrodes. A fixed AC or DC voltage is connected to the electrodes. |
