A first electronic control system (18) regulates operation of the petrol or diesel engine (2) and receives an input from the sensor on the accelerator pedal (16). The engine drives through a clutch (4) with an actuator (46) and connections to a second electronic control system (44). The change-speed gearbox (6) has gear change actuators (48,50) and is controlled by the second electronic control system. A gear change lever (70) is connected to the second electronic control system. There are speed sensors (60-65) on the wheels (12) connected to a third electronic control system (80) with an input from a sensor on the brake pedal (82).
