A sensing device and a robot cleaner using the same are provided to prevent damage to the robot cleaner by crossing sensors for detecting all obstacles on the traveling direction. A sensing device comprises a sensor part(410), a control part(420), a driving part(430), and a mapping part(440). The sensor part has at least one sensor, and adjusts the detecting direction in at least one sensor of each sensor to be a portion except for a front surface. The control part calculates the distance information on an object detected by the sensor part. The sensors are selected among an infrared ray sensor, a position sensitive detector(PSD), an ultrasonic sensor, and a laser sensor. The driving part rotates wheels according to the driving command of the control part. The mapping part maps the position of the object currently detected by using the distance information calculated by the control part.
