An illumination apparatus and a display apparatus are provided to enhance brightness uniformity by diffusing electronic beams to the peripheries of cross sections. An illumination apparatus includes first and second substrates(12,14), cathode and gate electrodes(22,26), electron emitting units(28), and an illumination unit(20). The first and second substrates are formed opposite to each other. The cathode electrodes are positioned in the first substrate. The gate electrodes, which are crossed with the cathode electrodes, include plural apertures at cross sections with the cathode electrodes. The electron emitting units are disposed on the cathode electrodes in the apertures. The illumination unit is positioned at an inner surface of the second substrate. At least one of the electron emitting units is positioned apart from a center of the apertures.
