The invention concerns a portable electronic device (1) for controlling and managing functions and/or data of a vehicle. Therefor, the portable device comprises, a housing means for wireless transmission and reception of signals for personalized short range communication with the vehicle. It further comprises a microprocessor unit for processing the functions and/or data of the device and of the vehicle, at least one display (3) and manual control means (5, 6). A power source, such as a battery is provided in the housing to supply electric energy to all the electronic components of the device. The manual control means include control keys (5). Each control key can be individually activated by one finger of a user. The control means further include at least one control knob (6) which can be depressed in particular for shifting the control keys (5) and the display (3) from a standby mode to an operating mode.
