[Also in Division E2] A clamping device 14 for holding an overlapping array of cards on a stepped plate 11 such as claimed in Specification 972,865 comprises a sheet 102 of resilient material normally bowed in transverse section and,having a plurality of spaced blocks 107a. 107i, 108a ... 108i of yieldable, resilient, material secured along opposed marginal edges of its concave surface, whereby in use, the sheet 102 is placed beneath the plate 11 with the blocks engaging the longitudinal edges of the plate and holding the edges of the cards positioned thereon. The sheet 102 is provided with a plurality of spaced ears 104a . . . 104i and 106a . . . 106i (not shown) along its longitudinal edges on which the blocks 107a. . . 107i and 108a . . ., 108i are secured by adhesive. The blocks are formed from elastomeric material such as polyurethane. In use, the plate 11 is supported on a base 10, substantially as described in said Specification except that the continuous side guide rails are replaced by spaced lugs 15a . . . 15j and 16a ... 16j, with the sheet 102 flattened between the base 10 and plate 11 and the blocks positioned between the spaced lugs. The cards are arrayed in overlapping fashion on the plate by a card separator 12 as claimed in Specification 972,863. On removing the plate from the base, the sheet 102 resumes its bowed shape to clamp the cards on the plate. The sheet 102 is cut away at one end 112, Fig. 6 (not shown), to facilitate removal of the plate from the base. |
