PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogen production apparatus having improved hydrogen production efficiency by reducing the energy used for an electric dialyzer for concentrating a hydrogen iodide aqueous solution to the utmost. SOLUTION: The hydrogen production apparatus 1 is provided with a Bunsen reaction apparatus 2 for producing a sulfuric acid aqueous solution and the hydrogen iodide aqueous solution from iodine, sulfur dioxide and water, a hydrogen iodide concentration decomposition apparatus 3 for obtaining hydrogen and iodine to be supplied to the Bunsen reaction apparatus 2 by decomposing hydrogen iodide after the concentration of the hydrogen iodide aqueous solution and a sulfuric acid concentration and decomposition apparatus 4 for decomposing sulfuric acid after the concentration of the sulfuric acid aqueous solution. The electric dialyzer 32 for concentrating the hydrogen iodide aqueous solution to a concentration exceeding the azeotropic concentration of the hydrogen iodide aqueous solution is provided in the hydrogen iodide concentration decomposition apparatus3. A first distillation column 30 for concentrating the hydrogen iodide aqueous solution before flowing into the electric dialyzer 32 by the distillation is provided in the upstream side of the electric dialyzer 32.
