<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deterioration of productivity after evading collision of a following piece of paper into a preceding piece of paper when paper is passed. <P>SOLUTION: The sheet transporting apparatus pauses a recording sheet which is transported to have a specified process executed to it and the pausing is carried out even when the specified process is not executed. For example, when the image forming apparatus transports the paper to a paper post processing apparatus every 0.5 second and punching time by a punching apparatus 11 is 0.1 second, 0.6 second or more is necessary between the pieces of paper in order to have the paper post processing apparatus eject the paper and the timing between the pieces of paper is made to be 0.6 second by tranporting the piece of paper faster than a main body linear velocity after passing a punching position. However, when paused in a punching position for a second piece, the timing between the pieces of paper when the second piece of paper is punched is temporarily 0.4 second but is made 0.6 second after completion of the punching.
