<p>The particulate filter (1) serves also as the muffler in the exhaust system of the vehicle and accommodates a suitable medium (2) for the extraction of soot particles from the exhaust gas. A combustion device (5) is located at the inlet (3) of the unit (1) and fitted with a catalytic converter (6) restricting the damage caused to the filter medium (2) by the burning process. The burner (5) is connected to a sensor (8) and control unit (7) monitoring the amount of residues as well as the speed of the engine (10) in order to initiate a burning process when the engine is run in an idling mode.</p> |
