PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display apparatus having a spacer of high accuracy and to provide an efficient method of manufacturing the display. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display apparatus comprises a plurality of pixels 2 arranged into a matrix pattern by depositing a first ink by an ink-jet method onto a substrate 1, a light shielding layer 3 laid in a space among the plurality of pixels 2, and a plurality of projections 4 having a prescribed height distributed by depositing a second ink onto a plurality of positions on the light shielding layer 3 by an ink-jet method, the second ink being repelled by the light shielding layer 3.
