The device has a light source (32) configured to emit an illuminating light. An auto-side optical control unit (40) and a manual-side optical control unit (42) control the amount of light entering a light guide (34) based on light transmission characteristics of the light guide in a scope. The light guide transmits an entered illuminating light to an end of the scope, where the light passing through the light guide is emitted to a subject. The control units repeat feedback control to move an aperture (38) to a suitable position corresponding to a light amount level selected by a user.
