SECTION INSULATOR FOR A RIGID CATENARY

The invention relates to a dual-function section insulator for a rigid catenary, which can perform the functions of both a standard section insulator and a neutral section insulator. The inventive insulator is configured to maintain mechanical continuity such as to enable the smooth passage of the pantograph, thereby minimising the need for regulation and maintenance. The insulator essentially comprises: a pair of conductive rail segments (2) having a single central shoe (1) disposed therebetween obliquely to the direction of the catenary, a pair of arc-extinguishing wires (9) in which the electric field is broken, and a series of bars (8) which are disposed on the central shoe (1) and which, next to a jumper cable that extends from same to the conductive rail segment (2), can be used to bridge the conducting wire of the insulator (3) when the electric power supply to the pantograph is to be maintained.
