<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for screening a substance useful for improvement and/or treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and to provide a medicinal composition for treating rheumatoid arthritis based on a new action mechanism. <P>SOLUTION: The inventors found that responsiveness of LPS, TNF-α, IL-1β and CD40, in which inhibition of the responsiveness is known as a target for treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, is inhibited when expression of RA3 in which expression level is enhanced in human RA patient synovial membrane tissue is specifically inhibited. It was known that effect for treating rheumatoid arthritis is obtained by inhibiting expression of RA3 from these knowledge. In addition, the present invention establishes and provides a method of screening substances (namely remedies for rheumatoid arthritis) for obtaining an RA3 gene promoter and controlling expression of RA3.
