PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To beautifully form the seam at the start of sewing by opening a thread holder member without contact with the thread end in the initial stage of sewing in a chain-stitch sewing machine. SOLUTION: A thread cutter 48 of the sewing machine comprises a movable knife 50 which can advance or retreat to a looper 12, a fixed knife 55 to be engaged with the movable knife 50 on the way of movement for cutting a sewing thread T, the thread holder member 60 for holding the thread end E of the cut sewing thread on the looper 12 side, and a rod 68 for releasing the thread holder member 60 from the thread end E in the initial stage of sewing. The thread cutter also has a holder part 64 on the looper 12 side of the thread holder member 60 to be in contact with the thread end E, and an engagement part 65 on the opposite side not to be in contact with the thread end E. In addition, a releasing part 70 is disposed in the front end of the rod 68. The releasing part 70 is engaged with the engagement part 65 when the movable knife 50 is retreated, and opens the holder part 64 to release the thread end E. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
